Ronald Street subdivision works
Subdivision works for Ronald Street in Robinvale are scheduled to start this Monday, 31 August, with works anticipated to be completed by Friday, 30 October.
While the subdivision works take place, Council will call for Expression of Interests for the construction of houses.
In July 2020, Council adopted an action plan to implement the Robinvale Housing Strategy, which highlights the issues encountered in the Robinvale area such as shortage of low-cost and temporary accommodation.
Actions include the development of eight houses in Ronald Street, with Council planning to construct houses on the subdivided land. This has been made possible via a $500,000 in funding from the State Government, matching Council’s own contribution.
Local Government elections
Last week the Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane, announced that Victorian Local Government elections will go ahead this coming October, following advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer.
The election will be held entirely by post. Ballot packs will be distributed by the VEC via post to enrolled people from Tuesday 6 October to Thursday 8 October.
Voting will close by 6pm on Friday 23 October.
The deadline for inclusion of postal votes is 12 noon on Friday, 30 October and the results declaration will be completed by Friday, 13 November.
If you’re looking to stand in the upcoming Swan Hill Rural City Council election, candidate nominations will open on Thursday, 17 September and close at 12 noon Tuesday, 22 September.
This year, for the first time, there is a new requirement that all candidates must complete Local Government Candidate Training before you are able to nominate. This includes all serving or former Councillors intending to nominate.
This training is now available online at www.localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/candidate-training
The site also includes a list of frequently asked questions and other information.
A VEC candidate information session will also be able to be streamed online from Thursday, 3 September.
Candidates can visit vec.vic.gov.au for the online information session as well as view the Candidate Handbook.
I’d also like to remind community members to make sure they are enrolled to vote for the upcoming election. Enrolments close at 4pm this Friday, 28 August.
Australian citizens who have recently turned 18 or changed their address can enrol or update their State enrolment details at vec.vic.gov.au/enrolment
Swan Hill Remembers film launch
The Swan Hill Regional Library will be launching their film Swan Hill Remembers online this Monday, 31 August.
The event will include the film launch and the library’s current online exhibition. The documentary-style film and online exhibition of memorabilia commemorates local heroes, heroines and the significant local sites of World War II.
The event will also include an author talk with Mike Rosel, author of the book A Rat of Tobruk: A Digger’s Lost Images of the Siege.
The exhibition of World War II memorabilia will be displayed online until 31 October 2020. Swan Hill Remembers will be available in perpetuity via the Swan Hill Regional Library website.

Click and collect at the library
The library’s contactless click and collect service re-commenced this week.
As per last time, you can order items from the library online, via email or by phone. When items are available an appointment will be made to collect items from the library foyer.
