Visitors hit the region for the long weekend

It was fantastic to see visitor flocking back to our municipality during the March long weekend – and what a weekend it was!

For the first time in two years, the boats were back in Robinvale for the Robinvale/Euston 80 Ski Race, along with the crowds flocking to the Swan Hill Region Food and Wine Festival at the Pioneer Settlement, community markets, twilight cruises, fireworks, live music and more.

I was so delighted to see caravans and boats arriving, accommodation and hospitality venues bursting at the seams – with the perfect weather, I am sure they will all return to our beautiful region soon.

Heritage listing for Pioneer Settlement

The Pioneer Settlement has been listed on the Victorian Heritage Register – paying respect and acknowledging those who established the Pioneer Settlement over 60 years ago.

The Pioneer Settlement is undoubtedly an important and significant asset to the Swan Hill community and broader tourism industry.

I have noticed a lot of speculation coming from members of the community, as to how this may impact the future of the Pioneer Settlement. While the outcome was not the decision Council had hoped for I want to assure you all that Council is currently assessing what this listing will mean for the day-to-day operations of the Pioneer Settlement, as well as any effects on our ability to carry out future development at our valued tourist attraction.

We will provide a further update when more information is available.

Keeping out pets safe

Residents now have the chance to microchip their pets for free in April in both Swan Hill are Robinvale. What’s more this also includes free animal registrations until 10 April 2023 – a significant saving.

Microchipping and registering your pets is one of the best ways to ensure you can be reunited with your beloved pet, if it gets lost – I know my family would be devastated if our German Shepherd, Flash, was ever missing.

You should have received your pet’s registration renewal notice recently – cat and dog registrations are due on 10 April.

For more information or to book a free microchip, please contact Council’s Regulatory Services on 5036 2346.

Seven new projects, confirmed

  • I am beyond delighted to announce that Council’s works schedule has been confirmed for seven exciting new projects.

  • McCallum Street Footpath –Revitalisation of former channel no. 9 site
  • Swan Hill Town Hall exterior refurbishment

These projects have received funding under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, phase 3 – I can’t wait to watch them become a reality.
