School holidays in the municipality
It was fantastic to see our municipality buzzing during the school holidays recently. We welcomed many visitors and, despite the cool mornings, the sun was shining too.
A number of activities were available to entertain children from across many council services, including local libraries, the Art Gallery, Town Hall and performing arts to the traditional and ever popular school holiday program at Pioneer Settlement.
I was impressed to see how popular these activities were – proving to us that our region continues to have so much on offer.
NAIDOC week
NAIDOC week events went off without a hitch last week. I was honored to be involved and pay tribute to our local First Nations People.
It was great to see so many celebrations being held right across the municipality. In fact, I attended a NAIDOC week event each day – from the opening of Connections on Sunday at the Art Gallery to the MVAC family day on Friday, it was just fantastic!
This year’s theme focused on celebrating, honouring and learning more – something we can all embrace in our daily lives. It seeks real change in the relationship between the wider community and Aboriginal and Torres Islander people – I encourage you to seriously consider this message.
Get Up! Stand up! Show Up!
New Emergency Department
I was excited last week when Swan Hill District Health released the much anticipated render designs for the Emergency Department Redevelopment.
This new building will more than double the number of existing treatment spaces set in a new modern building – how exciting!
I am delighted with these innovative and sleek designs (do yourself a favor and check them out if you haven’t yet!) and I look forward to supporting Swan Hill District Health and the wider community to provide this new state of the art Emergency Department, for our region and beyond.
