Are you involved with educating, training or supporting young people with employment opportunities? Do you want to know what the skills of tomorrow’s workforce will be? If so, this workshop is for you.
Foundation for Young Australians will present an interactive forum – Unleash the Skills for Tomorrow’s Needs – in Swan Hill on Tuesday, 10 October.
Swan Hill Rural City Council is partnering with Murray Mallee Local Learning Employment Network (MMLLEN) and the Department of Education and Training to bring the forum to Swan Hill.
MMLLEN Executive Officer Deb Quin said the forum would focus on the workforce’s increasing transition to being global, technology driven and flexible.
“It will highlight the new professions we expect to see in the next 10 to 20 years, as well as the ones that will be lost,” she said.
“And it will look at the sorts of skills our young people will need to thrive in this changing work environment – skills like digital and financial literacy, creativity and teamwork.”
A recent report from the Foundation for Young Australians predicts that workers in 2030 will perform fewer routine and manual tasks, instead focusing on ‘enterprise skills’ like human interaction, strategic and creative thinking. They will also spend more time learning on the job, solving problems and using science and maths skills.
Council’s Director Development and Planning Heather Green said the Foundation for Young Australians would visit local schools on the morning of 10 October, before the afternoon session with local businesses and education providers.
“This is a chance for local businesses, education providers and job and training services to learn more about the changing work environment, and start thinking about how they will be part of it.”
The interactive forum will include a question and answer session and a light lunch.
