Nominations are now open for the 2020 Australia Day Local Government Awards.

Council is encouraging residents to nominate local community members and groups for their contributions and achievements within their communities.

Nominations will close at 5pm on Thursday, 21 November for all three categories:

·         Australia Day Citizen Award – nominee must be 30 years or older on 26 January 2020

·         Australia Day Young Citizen Award – nominee must be under 30 years on 26 January 2020

·         Community Event of the Year Award – presented to a person/group who has staged the most outstanding community event during 2018

Mayor Ann Young said she looked forward to celebrating the achievements of individuals and organisations each year.

“Every year we are amazed by the efforts of people within our community. These nominations are such a wonderful example of people working to make the lives of others in our community better, making our communities and clubs stronger,” she said.

“Anyone can nominate a person or event that they believe deserves recognition, so if you have someone in mind, please jump online or get in touch to nominate them.

“Nominations received each year are of a high calibre and these people are deserving of recognition, so if you have nominated someone in the past, please put their name forward again.”

Visit www.swanhill.vic.gov.au to fill out an online nomination, collect forms from Council offices in Swan Hill and Robinvale, or contact Robyn Fry on 5036 2361 or rfry@swanhill.vic.gov.au.

Awards will be presented at 2020 Australia Day celebrations in Swan Hill or Robinvale (depending on winners’ location).
